Principles STEP is guided by the following 2 fundamental principles;

  1. Partnership Partnership entails all parties possessing equal right as well as equal duties. That is why we refer to our clients as ‘partners’ – partners in a joint effort to achieve economic and social development. We also seek the active support from the community at large that we serve to chive our goals of socio-economic development of the under-privileged and disadvantaged families. As partners, Sampurna believes that in exchange for our quality services, our clients/partners would also b agreeable to provide us with service charge if they find our services of any value to them. Following up on the value of transparency, we also ensure that a written contract of partnership is signed by both parties so that there is no ambiguity in the future about the roles and responsibilities of both parties. We believe that people would better value our services if they have to pay nominal charges against the services - and unlike other NGOs providing free service, our partners will not take things for granted. Through such agreements and arrangements, we try to ensure that our partners also take the services we offer and provide as seriously as we do. However, we are also not profit driven such as the financing services offered by organizations in the corporate sector and therefore view the service charge as a token of appreciation from our partners for our earnest efforts to achieve socio-economic goals jointly.
  2. Sustainability We strongly believe that short bursts of success and growth is of no us unless they are accompanies with an intention and appropriate strategies towards sustainability. At Sampurna, we are completely focused on sustainability in the long-term for both the organization as well as for our partners. For us, achieving sustainability is not merely related to being financially stable as an organization but also achieving operational and psycho-social sustainability for us and our partners. We at Sampurna identify our operations and efforts being sustainable when the organization and our partners are able to:
  • Cover their expenses by its own consistent and secure income,
  • Be free from external dependency, and
  • Empowered enough to take informed and well judged decision.

Therefore sustainability is one of the core principles of STEP.
